Their number has grown by 15%, or about 2 million eligible voters, in the past four years. In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2021\/06\/30\/behind-bidens-2020-victory\/#voting-patterns-in-the-2020-election\">72% of English-speaking, single-race, non-Hispanic Asian voters<\/a> said they voted for Democrat Joe Biden for president, while 28% said they voted for Republican Donald Trump, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of validated voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the 2024 presidential election approaches, here are six key facts about Asian American eligible voters in the U.S., based on our own projections for 2024, as well as Census Bureau data for previous years. (Eligible voters in this analysis are defined as citizens ages 18 and older residing in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Not all eligible voters are actually registered to vote. For this analysis, we examine the detailed demographics and geographic distribution of Asian Americans who were eligible to vote in the U.S. in 2022, with projections of the eligible voter population in November 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEligible voters\u201d refers to U.S. citizens ages 18 and older. The analysis focuses on persons living in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. In this analysis, Hispanics are those who self-identify as Hispanic or Latino and can be of any race; the Black and Asian populations include persons identifying with only one race, more than one race and both Hispanics and non-Hispanics. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The analysis is based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau\u2019s American Community Surveys from 2022, 2020, 2016, 2012 and 2008, and the 2000 U.S. decennial census provided through <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.ipums.org\/usa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Integrated Public Use Microdata Series<\/a> (IPUMS) from the University of Minnesota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Projections for November 2024 are based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/data\/datasets\/2023\/demo\/popproj\/2023-popproj.html\">population projections<\/a> by race, Hispanic origin and nativity developed by the Census Bureau together with data from the American Community Surveys (IPUMS) of 2010-2022. However, the number of Asian American eligible voters and their share of the U.S. eligible voter population increased substantially between 2020 and this year, according to our projections. The state is home to nearly a third (31%) of the entire U.S. Asian electorate.
