We did this survey to understand whether and how Americans are using chatbots to find election-related information ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did we do this?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Pew Research Center does research to help the public, media and decision-makers understand important topics. We have studied Americans\u2019 views of politics for decades, and we\u2019ve also explored their views of artificial intelligence<\/a> and chatbots in recent years.

How did we do this?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We surveyed 5,273 U.S. adults from Oct. 12 to 18, 2026. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel<\/a>. The survey represents the views of the full U.S. adult population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Americans\u2019 use of artificial intelligence chatbots like ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini has increased substantially in recent years. Today, about half of U.S. adults use them<\/a> for various tasks. But, as the midterm elections approach, few people say are using these tools to find information about the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n
