It\u2019s been 25 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Many Americans remember the day with clarity: 83% of adults who were born before 2001 \u2013 including 93% of those who were 10 or older at the time \u2013 say they recall exactly where they were or what they were doing when they heard the news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Pew Research Center analysis looks at Americans\u2019 memories of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did we do this? <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Pew Research Center does research to help the public, media and decision-makers understand important topics. We first surveyed American\u2019s reactions to the 9\/11 attacks in the immediate aftermath of those attacks and have regularly measured Americans\u2019 views of the events of 9\/11 and their attitudes on related topics throughout the past 25 years.

How did we do this? <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We surveyed 5,166 U.S. adults from August 24 to 30, 2026. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel. The survey represents the views of the full U.S. adult population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
