On Jan. 21, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/01\/21\/trump-speech-davos-greenland\/\">Trump announced<\/a> that he had \u201cformed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland,\u201d though he did not specify whether the United States would administer the island. But GOP opposition to a takeover has ticked up over this period, from 28% to 33%. The share of Republicans who say they are not sure has dropped by 5 percentage points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While overall GOP support is unchanged, the share of Republicans who <em>strongly<\/em> favor a Greenland takeover is up 5 points since March, from 15% to 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"among-democrats\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Among Democrats<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As they did last spring, Democrats overwhelmingly oppose a U.S. takeover of Greenland. Currently, 82% of Democrats oppose this, virtually unchanged from last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearly three-in-four Democrats (73%) <em>strongly <\/em>oppose taking over Greenland.
