On a host of measures, White Democrats \u2013 and sometimes Asian Democrats<em> \u2013 <\/em>are<em> a lot less religious<\/em> than Black and Hispanic Democrats. Studying the relationship between religion and politics is a key part of the Center\u2019s long-standing research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/about\/\">Learn more about Pew Research Center.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\" id=\"how-did-we-do-this\"><strong>How did we do this?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This analysis is based on findings from the 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study (RLS), a survey of 36,908 U.S. adults that was conducted from July 17, 2023, to March 4, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2025\/02\/PR_2025.02.26_religious-landscape-study_questionnaire-web-phone.pdf\">questions used in the 2023-24 RLS<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2025\/02\/PR_2025.02.26_religious-landscape-study_topline.pdf\">topline<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/religion\/2025\/02\/26\/religious-landscape-study-methodology\/\">survey methodology<\/a>. And here are the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2025\/11\/SR_25.11.20_religion-race-politics_table.pdf\">sample sizes for each group and their margins of error<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"religiousness-by-party-overall\">Religiousness by party overall<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, U.S. adults who are Republican or lean toward the GOP are more religious than Democrats and Democratic leaners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, 52% of Republicans say they pray daily, compared with 35% of Democrats. Hispanic Democrats are less religious than Black Democrats. And White and Asian Democrats tend to be less religious than both Black and Hispanic Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, 75% of Black Democrats and 48% of Hispanic Democrats say they believe in God or a universal spirit with absolute certainty. That\u2019s a lot higher than the corresponding shares of Asian Democrats (29%) and White Democrats (29%).
