Another 51% say who the president is makes some difference in their lives, while 18% say it makes no difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-style-plus-icon has-border-color has-ui-gray-light-border-color has-ui-beige-very-light-background-color has-background has-sans-serif-font-family is-layout-flow wp-container-core-details-is-layout-61b01db2 wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-width:1px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-size:clamp(0.875em, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 0.2em) * 0.009), 0.88em);\"><summary>How we did this<\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to understand Americans\u2019 views of the impact a president has in different areas, including on people\u2019s personal lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this analysis, we surveyed 5,044 adults from June 2 to 8, 2025. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel (ATP), a group of people recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses who have agreed to take surveys regularly. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection. Interviews were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. They are now far more likely to say that who is president makes a big difference for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The United States\u2019 standing in the world (83% now vs. 64% in 2023)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mood of the country (80% vs. 62%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The health of the economy (72% vs. 39%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National security (71% vs. 54%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Majorities of Republicans and GOP leaners also say that who is president generally has a big impact on these areas. Four-in-ten Americans ages 65 and older say this, compared with 33% of those 50 to 64, 25% of those 30 to 49 and 26% of those 18 to 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"views-by-party\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Views by party<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar shares of Democrats (32%) and Republicans (29%) say the president makes a big difference in their personal lives. (These shares include those who lean to each party.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>However, strong partisans in both parties are more likely to say that who is president makes a big difference to them personally.<\/strong> For example, 44% of people who identify as strong Democrats say this, compared with 25% of Democrats with weaker partisan ties and 27% of those who lean toward but don\u2019t identify with the Democratic Party. A similar pattern appears among Republicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: Here are the <a
