(Scott Olson\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roughly three months into President Donald Trump\u2019s second term, White evangelical Protestants <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/03\/15\/5-facts-about-religion-and-americans-views-of-donald-trump\/\">continue to be among his strongest supporters<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>72% approve of the way Trump is currently handling his job as president.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>69% rate the ethics of top Trump administration officials as excellent or good.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>57% say they trust what Trump says more than what previous presidents said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a closer look at how White evangelicals and other major U.S. religious groups view the second Trump administration, based on a Pew Research Center survey of 3,589 U.S. adults conducted April 7-13, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-style-plus-icon has-border-color has-ui-gray-light-border-color has-ui-beige-very-light-background-color has-background has-sans-serif-font-family is-layout-flow wp-container-core-details-is-layout-61b01db2 wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-width:1px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-size:clamp(0.875em, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 0.2em) * 0.009), 0.88em);\"><summary>How we did this<\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pew Research Center conducted this survey to understand how U.S. religious groups view President Donald Trump and the recent actions his administration has taken on key issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this analysis, we surveyed 3,589 adults from April 7 to April 13, 2025. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel (ATP), a group of people recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses who have agreed to take surveys regularly. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection. Interviews were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. White evangelicals overwhelmingly identify as or lean Republican, as do smaller majorities of White nonevangelical Protestants and White Catholics. By contrast, most Black Protestants, Hispanic Catholics and religiously unaffiliated adults are Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Related<\/em><\/strong><em>: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2025\/04\/23\/evaluations-of-trump-job-approval-and-confidence-on-issues\/\"><em>Evaluations of Trump: Job approval and confidence on issues<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among Americans overall, Trump\u2019s job approval rating is down 7 percentage points since February. By contrast, among the public overall, most (62%) rate the ethics of the Trump administration as only fair or poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White Catholics are split in their views of the ethical standards of Trump\u2019s top officials: Half rate them as excellent or good, while half rate them as only fair or poor. An additional 23% say they trust Trump\u2019s words about the same as those of previous presidents, while 19% say they have less trust in what Trump says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White nonevangelical Protestants and White Catholics are roughly split on trust in Trump\u2019s words. About four-in-ten in each group say they trust Trump <em>more<\/em> than previous presidents, while roughly the same share say they trust him <em>less<\/em>. About two-in-ten in these groups say they trust Trump\u2019s words about the same as those of previous presidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Majorities of Black Protestants (65%) and religiously unaffiliated adults (64%) say they trust what Trump says less than what previous presidents said in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"support-for-the-trump-administrations-various-actions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support for the Trump administration\u2019s various actions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religious groups\u2019 views of key actions by the new administration generally track their views of how Trump is handling his job as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three-quarters of White evangelicals approve of Trump\u2019s actions to end diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies in the federal government. The same share approve of Trump\u2019s cuts to federal departments and agencies.
