About half of Americans (47%) say the administration is doing \u201cabout the right amount\u201d on deportations, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. However, almost as many (44%) say the administration is doing \u201ctoo much\u201d to remove immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally. A much smaller group (8%) says Trump is doing \u201ctoo little.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-style-plus-icon has-border-color has-ui-gray-light-border-color has-ui-beige-very-light-background-color has-background has-sans-serif-font-family is-layout-flow wp-container-core-details-is-layout-61b01db2 wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-width:1px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-size:clamp(0.875em, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 0.2em) * 0.009), 0.88em);\"><summary>How we did this<\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pew Research Center conducted this survey to assess Americans\u2019 views of the Trump administration\u2019s actions on immigration early in his second term. We surveyed 5,086 U.S. adults from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel (ATP), a group of people recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses who have agreed to take surveys regularly. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection. Surveys were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. More than six-in-ten <em>strongly<\/em> approve of these actions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>80% of Republicans approve of cutting federal funds to cities and states if they do not cooperate with deportations, including 54% who strongly approve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>72% of Republicans approve of suspending asylum applications, with 38% saying they strongly approve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Democrats generally disapprove of the administration\u2019s immigration policies.<\/strong> But some are less popular than others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>33% of Democrats approve of increasing deportations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30% approve of sending additional military forces to the border.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>18% approve of suspending asylum applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>16% approve of cutting federal funds for cities and states if they do not help federal deportation efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"how-racial-and-ethnic-groups-view-the-trump-administrations-immigration-efforts\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How racial and ethnic groups view the Trump administration\u2019s immigration efforts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White adults are generally more supportive of Trump\u2019s immigration actions than adults in other racial and ethnic groups. Black adults are the least likely to support the administration\u2019s efforts. And approval among Asian Americans tends to be higher than among Hispanic adults. The gap in approval between White and Hispanic Republicans is somewhat smaller when it comes to Trump suspending asylum applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asian Republicans\u2019 views of each of these actions generally fall between those of White and Hispanic Republicans. There were not enough Black Republicans to analyze their views separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clear majorities of Democrats across racial and ethnic groups disapprove of Trump\u2019s actions on immigration. But Asian (43%) and Black (40%) Democrats are more likely than White (32%) and Hispanic (27%) Democrats to say they <em>approve<\/em> of Trump\u2019s increased efforts to deport immigrants who are living in the U.S. illegally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: Here are the <a
