Before the recent U.S. presidential election, Americans and Germans generally perceived the relationship between their countries as positive, according to surveys conducted in both countries by Pew Research Center and K\u00f6rber-Stiftung. However, there were some differences in views on topics including bilateral partnerships, conflicts around the world and the military threat posed by China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The joint surveys by the Center and K\u00f6rber-Stiftung took place in September \u2013 before the U.S. presidential election, but between elections in the German states of Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, which resulted in greater support for far-right parties<\/a>. K\u00f6rber-Stiftung separately conducted a follow-up survey in Germany<\/a> after the U.S. election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are several key findings about U.S.-German relations, based on the September surveys. It\u2019s important to note that attitudes may have changed in the wake of the U.S. election on Nov. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n
