It is also lower than for Bill Clinton\u2019s first inaugural in 1993, when 57% said they intended to watch. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">(The question was not asked when George W. Bush took office in 2001.)<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\">There is a wide partisan gap over plans to watch the inauguration, according to a new Pew Research Center survey, conducted Jan. 4-9 among 1,502 adults. About seven-in-ten Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (69%) say they will watch the event, compared with just 30% of Democrats and Democratic leaners.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\"><!--more--><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\">Despite their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2017\/01\/10\/negative-views-of-trumps-transition-amid-concerns-about-conflicts-tax-returns\/\">overall support<\/a>\u00a0for the president-elect and his plans, Republicans are less enthusiastic about watching Trump\u2019s inauguration than Democrats were about watching Obama\u2019s eight years ago (69% of Republicans today, compared with 84% of Democrats in 2009).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\">Republicans also were more interested in watching Obama\u2019s inaugural in 2009 than Democrats are in watching Trump\u2019s this week. In 2009, nearly half of Republicans and Republican leaners (47%) planned to watch Obama take the oath of office.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\">Even if they were offered a ticket to the inauguration, many Americans say they would not attend it, as was the case for Obama\u2019s inaugural in 2009. Just 39% of Americans say they would attend this year\u2019s inauguration if offered a ticket; 43% said they would in 2009.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps not surprisingly, Americans\u2019 interest in attending the inauguration this week falls along party lines: While 65% of Republicans and Republican leaners say they would attend if offered a ticket, only 16% of Democrats and Democratic leaners say they would.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"Normal1 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: See full <a
