3.2px) * 0.455), 18px);\">\ud83d\udd25 <strong>Featured story<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>German regulators<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/german-media-regulator-says-googles-ai-overviews-subject-german-media-law-2026-07-14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said this week<\/a> that the country\u2019s media laws apply to <strong>content generated by artificial intelligence<\/strong> after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/german-court-holds-google-liable-for-fake-ai-answers\/a-77527661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">court ruled last month<\/a> that <strong>Google<\/strong> is liable for inaccurate information in its AI summaries.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2025\/10\/15\/trust-in-own-country-to-regulate-use-of-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pew Research Center survey last year<\/a>, seven-in-ten German adults said they had at least some trust in their country to <strong>regulate the use of AI effectively.<\/strong> This is a higher share than in most other European countries surveyed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, two-thirds of U.S. adults say they have little to no confidence in the <strong>U.S. government<\/strong> to regulate the technology effectively, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/2026\/06\/17\/americans-and-ai-2026-chatbots-smart-devices-and-views-on-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February survey<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"new-from-pew-research-center\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a;font-family:Georgia, serif;font-size:clamp(14px, 0.875rem + ((1vw - Access would come through high-cost subscriptions for companies and government offices. The startup has gained high-profile funders in Silicon Valley, including <strong>Peter Thiel<\/strong> and other figures who have long been critical of news organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The total number of statehouse reporters in the U.S. increased modestly between 2014 and 2022, but <strong>fewer reporters were covering state government full time<\/strong> by the end of that period, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2022\/04\/05\/total-number-of-u-s-statehouse-reporters-rises-but-fewer-are-on-the-beat-full-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pew Research Center study<\/a>. The number of statehouse reporters employed by newspapers <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2022\/04\/05\/statehouse-reporters-by-outlet-type-nonprofit-news-grows-as-newspaper-presence-declines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declined noticeably<\/a>, while most growth came from nonprofit news outlets.
