Even before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-focuses-harris-race-black-jobs-combative-panel-black-journalists-rcna164271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his comments<\/a> during a combative Q&amp;A, his appearance had sparked mixed reactions from NABJ members. Some opposed giving Trump a platform, while others embraced the opportunity to ask him questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/05\/28\/more-than-half-of-americans-are-following-election-news-closely-and-many-are-already-worn-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">April survey<\/a>, half of Black Americans said they were <strong>following news about the candidates for the presidential election very or fairly closely,<\/strong> with 15% saying they were following this\u00a0<em>very<\/em>\u00a0closely. In a briefing with journalists, an official warned that Americans could be exposed to <strong>foreign propaganda<\/strong> online that appears to be from domestic sources, and said the disinformation can focus on candidates, voting or issues such as immigration and crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2020\/08\/18\/75-of-americans-say-its-likely-that-russia-or-other-governments-will-try-to-influence-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research Center survey<\/a> conducted during the last presidential election campaign in 2020, three-quarters of U.S. adults said it was very (44%) or somewhat (31%) likely that Russia or other foreign governments would attempt to influence that election. <strong>Among those who said foreign interference was at least somewhat likely, 62% considered it a major problem.<\/strong> Democrats were about twice as likely as Republicans to view foreign attempts to influence the election as a major problem (78% vs. 37%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcca\u00a0<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week\u2019s chart comes from a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/06\/12\/how-americans-get-news-on-tiktok-x-facebook-and-instagram\/#:~:text=About%20three%2Dquarters%20of%20news,have%20a%20lot%20of%20influence.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center study conducted in March 2024<\/a> on how Americans get news on TikTok, X, Facebook and Instagram. <strong>Most people who get news<\/strong> on each of these platforms studied say they <strong>at least sometimes see news there that seems inaccurate.<\/strong> News consumers on X (37%) and Facebook (33%) are the <strong>most likely<\/strong> to say they often see news that seems inaccurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News consumers on each site also largely think that <strong>social media platforms are influencing which news stories they see there,<\/strong> to at least some extent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e5dadc\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e5dadc;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"1391\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/07\/PJ_2024.06.12_social-media-platforms-news_0-06.webp?resize=480,1077 480w, https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/07\/PJ_2024.06.12_social-media-platforms-news_0-06.webp?resize=620,1391 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 480px, (max-width: 782px) 782px, 640px\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/07\/PJ_2024.06.12_social-media-platforms-news_0-06.webp\" alt=\"Two bar charts: One shows that among news consumers on each of the four major social media platforms studied say they at least sometimes see news on the platform that seems inaccurate.
