Rupert Murdoch has previously argued that Lachlan would keep Fox News\u2019 conservative orientation and solidify his companies\u2019 commercial values for all of his children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More Americans name Fox News as their main source for political news than any other source, according to an open-ended question in a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/10\/31\/americans-top-sources-of-political-news-ahead-of-the-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. John Kennedy introduced a bill last week to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/article\/12\/08\/2024\/weakened-us-public-broadcasters-will-fight-for-their-lives-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">end federal funding for U.S. public media<\/a>, continuing a <strong>long-standing Republican effort to defund NPR, PBS and their member stations. <\/strong>But the chances of success may be higher after Donald Trump returns to the White House: Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the proposed leaders of a new \u201cDepartment of Government Efficiency,\u201d also have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/lindseychoo\/2024\/11\/27\/elon-musk-doge-takes-aim-federal-agencies-where-cuts-can-be-made\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested that public media be cut from the federal budget<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/10\/10\/where-americans-turn-for-election-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Center survey about political news sources<\/a>, <strong>about a third of Americans (34%) use NPR as a source of political and election news, <\/strong>although Democrats are more than twice as likely as Republicans to say this (48% vs. 21%). <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2020\/01\/24\/democrats-report-much-higher-levels-of-trust-in-a-number-of-news-sources-than-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">And in 2019<\/a>, <strong>Democrats were more<\/strong> <strong>likely than Republicans to trust<\/strong> both NPR and PBS for political and election news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcca\u00a0<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week\u2019s chart comes from our <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/12\/02\/most-americans-continue-to-say-media-scrutiny-keeps-politicians-from-doing-things-they-shouldnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent analysis<\/a> conducted two months before the 2024 U.S. presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About three-quarters of U.S. adults (77%) say news organizations <strong>tend to favor one side<\/strong> when presenting the news on political and social issues.
