But DeepSeek built its model with much less investment and computing power than its American competitors, leading to disruptions in the U.S. market (such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/finance\/stocks\/the-day-deepseek-turned-tech-and-wall-street-upside-down-f2a70b69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plunging stock<\/a> of computer chip maker <strong>Nvidia<\/strong>).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This could add a new frontier to tensions about information and technology between U.S. and China, even as the future of TikTok in the U.S. remains unclear. The briefings will open to \u201cindependent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, and content creators\u201d who can apply for credentials to cover the\u00a0<strong>Trump administration<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many Americans are now getting news from these types of sources. About one-in-five U.S. adults say they regularly get news from\u00a0<strong>news influencers on social media<\/strong>, defined in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/11\/18\/americas-news-influencers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our recent study<\/a>\u00a0as individuals who have a large following on social media and regularly post about current events and civic issues. The study also shows that most news influencers (77%)<strong>\u00a0have no affiliation or background with a news organization<\/strong>, and most (63%) are men.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcca\u00a0<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the White House\u2019s decision to reserve front-row seats in the press briefing room for social media influencers and other \u201cnew media\u201d journalists, this week\u2019s chart from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/11\/18\/americans-experiences-with-social-media-news-influencers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Center\u2019s 2024 study on news influencers<\/a>\u00a0looks at\u00a0<strong>how Americans who get news from news influencers feel about it<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most U.S. adults who regularly get news from news influencers say content from news influencers\u00a0<strong>has helped them better understand current events and civic issues<\/strong>\u00a0(65%).
