The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/mediacentre\/2025\/new-ebu-research-ai-assistants-news-content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> analyzed 3,000 responses to questions about the news from AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity. According to the research, 81% of the AI responses had some kind of problem, including 45% that had at least one significant issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Americans who get news from AI chatbots have mixed experiences with the news they get there \u2013 particularly when it comes to perceptions of its quality, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/10\/01\/relatively-few-americans-are-getting-news-from-ai-chatbots-like-chatgpt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. <strong>About half of U.S. adults who get news from AI chatbots say they at least sometimes come across news there that they think is inaccurate.<\/strong> And a third of those who use chatbots for news say they generally find it difficult to determine what is true and what is not, while fewer (24%) say they find it easy. It comes as part of a larger plan for the outlet to reach 15 million subscribers by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A growing share of Americans get news from social media platforms that feature video, such as <strong>TikTok, Instagram <\/strong>and<strong> YouTube, <\/strong>according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/social-media-and-news-fact-sheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">August Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. For example, one-in-five U.S. adults now say they <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/09\/25\/1-in-5-americans-now-regularly-get-news-on-tiktok-up-sharply-from-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regularly get news from TikTok<\/a>, up from just 3% in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcca\u00a0<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week\u2019s chart looks more closely at Americans\u2019 perceptions of the accuracy of news they get from AI chatbots.
