officials\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/16\/business\/media\/trump-iran-media-coverage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticized the news media<\/a> in the past week for their coverage of the ongoing\u00a0<strong>war in Iran.\u00a0<\/strong>This includes Federal Communications Commission\u00a0chairman\u00a0<strong>Brendan Carr,\u00a0<\/strong>who warned he would revoke broadcasters\u2019 licenses if they do not \u201coperate in the public interest,\u201d specifically targeting what he called \u201choaxes and news distortions.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2025\/08\/20\/what-do-americans-want-from-their-news-providers\/#what-roles-do-americans-expect-their-news-providers-to-fulfill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research Center survey<\/a>\u00a0from last April asked U.S. adults what responsibilities they think their news providers have.\u00a0<strong>Reporting the news accurately<\/strong>\u00a0was at the top of the list, with 91% saying the people they get news from should probably or definitely do this in their daily work.\u00a0Large majorities also say their news sources should\u00a0<strong>correct false or misleading information from public figures\u00a0<\/strong>(84%) and\u00a0<strong>keep an eye on powerful people\u00a0<\/strong>(73%).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, most Americans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/12\/02\/most-americans-continue-to-say-media-scrutiny-keeps-politicians-from-doing-things-they-shouldnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have long said<\/a>\u00a0that scrutiny from news organizations keeps political leaders from doing things
