By working in partnership, the Pew Hispanic Center and Pew Internet Project provide a snapshot of the intersection of these two trends \u2013 the Latino internet user population. <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cLatino\u201d and \u201cHispanic\u201d \u2014 the two terms are used interchangeably throughout the report and refer to adults, age 18 and older <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To begin, we offer a summary view of the Latino population in the United States.<\/p>\n\n<h3 data-is-section=\"true\" data-wp-context=\"{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;the-hispanic-population-is-younger-and-less-educated-than-the-non-hispanic-population&quot;}\" data-wp-interactive=\"{&quot;namespace&quot;:&quot;prc-block\\\/table-of-contents&quot;}\" id=\"the-hispanic-population-is-younger-and-less-educated-than-the-non-hispanic-population\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Hispanic population is younger and less educated than the non-Hispanic population.<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of 2005, 14% of the U.S. adult population identifies as Hispanic or Latino.[1. <em>Statistical Abstract of the U.S.<\/em>: 2007, page 15; \u201cFrom 200 to 300 Million: The Numbers Behind Population Growth\u201d (Pew Hispanic Center, October 2006); \u201cHispanics at Mid-Decade\u201d (Pew Hispanic Center, September 2006); \u201cHispanic Trends: A People in Motion\u201d (Pew Hispanic Center, January 2005).] Within this population:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>63% are aged 18 to 41, compared with only 36% of whites and 46% of African Americans who are in that age group.[2. Note: all references to \u201cwhites,\u201d \u201cAfrican Americans\u201d or \u201cblacks\u201d include only non-Hispanics.]<\/li>\n<li>59% of Latino adults have graduated from high school, compared with 88% of whites and 79% of African Americans who have a high school degree.<\/li>\n<li>Among those reporting income, Latinos as a group are markedly poorer than whites and somewhat poorer than African Americans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 data-is-section=\"true\" data-wp-context=\"{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;as-it-has-increased-in-numbers-the-u-s-latino-population-has-become-more-diverse&quot;}\" data-wp-interactive=\"{&quot;namespace&quot;:&quot;prc-block\\\/table-of-contents&quot;}\" id=\"as-it-has-increased-in-numbers-the-u-s-latino-population-has-become-more-diverse\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">As it has increased in numbers, the U.S. Latino population has become more diverse.<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sixty percent of Latino adults were born outside the U.S. Among these immigrants, about two-thirds have lived in the country for 11 years or more. The remaining third of foreign-born Latinos are evenly split between those who have been in the States for five years or less and those who have been here for 6 to 10 years. About one-third of Hispanic immigrants are citizens of the U.S.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One-quarter of Latino adults are second-generation Americans, meaning they were born in the U.S. but at least one of their parents was born outside of the U.S. Sixteen percent of Latino adults are third-generation Americans, meaning they were born in the U.S. and both parents were born in the U.S. While Mexican-origin persons comprise the majority of Latinos in the U.S., there are ever-growing numbers of Latinos from other countries who bring their own traditions and characteristics.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"503\" height=\"619\" alt=\"Selected Characteristics of Hispanics in the US\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/media\/D8CB17F319784F74B37790942B8E2F54.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/figure><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction Over the last decade, the internet has become woven into American life, just at the time that Hispanics have become the fastest growing component of the U.S. population.
