{"id":94445,"date":"2013-09-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-19T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/2013\/09\/19\/additional-demographic-analysis\/"},"modified":"2024-04-14T04:13:00","modified_gmt":"2024-04-14T09:13:00","slug":"additional-demographic-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/2013\/09\/19\/additional-demographic-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional Demographic Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" align=\"left\">Younger adults (those ages 18-29), the college-educated, the more affluent, and urban and suburban-dwellers are especially likely to use their phones in a variety of ways.\u00a0 The following tables highlight the demographic composition of those who perform certain activities on their cell phones.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <strong>Text messaging<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Texting continues to be one of the most prevalent cell phone activities of all time.\u00a0 Fully 81% of cell owners text.\u00a0 It is especially popular among younger adults, the college-educated, and those living in higher-income households.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"432\" height=\"754\" alt=\"Text messaging\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/media\/DE757A85AFB448F8B58742971AD9E3E7.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <strong>Accessing the internet<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Six-in-ten cell owners access the internet on their phones.\u00a0 African-Americans and Hispanics are more likely to do so than whites.\u00a0 Younger adults, those with at least some college education, and those with an annual household income of over $75,000 a year are particularly likely to access the internet via cell phone.\u00a0 Those who live in rural areas are less likely than urban or suburbanites to have mobile internet access.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among those who use the internet or email on their phones, more than a third (34%) say that they mostly access the internet from their phone.[1.
