The site flagged the affected cities in red and created special classffieds categories such as &#8220;temporary housing,&#8221; &#8220;volunteer listings&#8221; and &#8220;lost and found.&#8221; Here are examples from the <a href=\"http:\/\/neworleans.craigslist.org\/about\/help\/katrina_cl.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mobile.craigslist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mobile<\/a> sites.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amateur photographers document the crisis <\/strong><br> The Yahoo!-owned photo service Flickr allows users to sort through thousands of images by looking for &#8220;tags,&#8221; or key words associated with the photographs. The mostly-amateur images are snapped using digital cameras and sometimes cell phones. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tags\/hurricanekatrina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here<\/a> for photos tagged &#8220;hurricanekatrina&#8221; or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tags\/hurricane\/clusters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a> to view all &#8220;hurricane&#8221; related photo pools. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Networks and cable channels offer free video <\/strong><br> News-seekers converging on the Internet for up-to-date information found readily available video from the major networks and cable channels. <a href=\"http:\/\/video.msn.com\/v\/us\/v.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSN video<\/a> carried free segments of NBC&#8217;s Nightly News as well as reports from MSNBC. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> also offered free video, as did <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FoxNews<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WWL TV<\/a>, the CBS affiliate in New Orleans, has offered live streaming video coverage since Katrina hit. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Blog aggregators serve as launching pads <\/strong><br> When scores of blogs offer coverage and commentary on the hurricane, it&#8217;s not easy to find the right ones. Aggregators such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truthlaidbear.com\/topicpage.php?topic=Katrina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Truth Laid Bear<\/a> or blog-portal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/katrina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Technorati<\/a> keep track of Katrina-related posts from thousands of blogs. Truth Laid Bear even sorts them in two categories: &#8220;latest news&#8221; and &#8220;most linked.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Katrina WikiHelp Portal<\/strong><br> Using the WiKi open source technology that allows users to modify each others&#8217;s posts, thus building on previous content, Wikipedia modeled <a href=\"http:\/\/katrinahelp.info\/wiki\/index.php\/Main_Page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this resource page<\/a> based on its tsunami Wiki.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Maps and images track storm <\/strong><br>Sites have flocked to provide weather maps and satellite images to allow a broad-picture image of the effects of the storm. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalsecurity.org\/military\/facility\/new-orleans-imagery.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Security<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osei.noaa.gov\/Events\/Current\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association<\/a>. Using Google technology, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scipionus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scipionus<\/a> allows users to add markers to streets on the Gulf Coast with comments on their status after the flood. carries satellite images of New Orleans before and after the hurricane.
