Schempp\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1960-1969\/1962\/1962_142\">Abington School District v. Schempp<\/a> (1963)<\/em><\/strong>\nIn prohibiting a program of daily Bible reading in public schools, ruled that government action must have a predominantly secular purpose.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Epperson v. Arkansas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1960-1969\/1968\/1968_7\">Epperson v. Arkansas<\/a> (1968)<\/em><\/strong>\nOverturned statute prohibiting the teaching of evolution, on basis that government sought to ban material objectionable to a particular religion.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Tinker v. Des Moines School District\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1960-1969\/1968\/1968_21\">Tinker v. Des Moines School District<\/a> (1969)<\/em><\/strong>\nUpholding students\u2019 right to wear armbands protesting the Vietnam War, ruled that school authorities cannot suppress expression unless it causes material disruption or violates the rights of others.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Wisconsin v.Yoder\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1970-1979\/1971\/1971_70_110\">Wisconsin v.Yoder<\/a> (1972)<\/em><\/strong>\nIn case involving Old Order Amish, ruled that the Free Exercise Clause limited the state\u2019s power to require children to attend school.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Widmar v. Vincent\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1980-1989\/1981\/1981_80_689\">Widmar v. Vincent<\/a> (1981)<\/em><\/strong>\nRuled that a state university could not exclude a student group from using school buildings on the basis of the group\u2019s religious viewpoint.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Edwards v. Aguillard\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1980-1989\/1986\/1986_85_1513\">Edwards v. Aguillard<\/a> (1987)<\/em><\/strong>\nOverturned statute requiring teaching of both evolution and creationism, concluding that the law impermissibly promoted a particular religious belief.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Board of Education v. Mergens\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1980-1989\/1989\/1989_88_1597\">Board of Education v. Mergens<\/a> (1990)<\/em><\/strong>\nUpholding the Equal Access Act, ruled that high schools, like universities, had an obligation to provide equal access to public facilities to all groups, including religious organizations.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Lee v.Weisman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1990-1999\/1991\/1991_90_1014\">Lee v.Weisman<\/a> (1992)<\/em><\/strong>\nProhibited school-sponsored prayer delivered by invited clergy at a school commencement, on the grounds that graduating students were being forced to participate in a religious ceremony.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a title=\"\u00a0Rosenberger v.
