Asked for a single word to describe the GOP field, the top response is a variation on \u201cunimpressed,\u201d with 42 mentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, 44% offer negative words to describe the Republican candidates, 19% use neutral words and just 12% use positive words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2011\/06\/06-01-11-GOP-field.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from \u201cunimpressed,\u201d there also are frequent mentions of \u201cdisappointed\u201d (21 mentions) and \u201cweak\u201d (also 21 mentions). \u201cGood\u201d is the most frequently offered positive word, with 18 mentions. Still, nearly as many say \u201cincompetent\u201d (17) or \u201cpathetic\u201d (16). These are actual mentions \u2013 not percentages \u2013 in a survey conducted May 26-29 among 1,000 adults by the Pew Research Center for the People &amp; the Press and The Washington Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even Republicans and Republican- leaning independents use mostly negative words to describe their party\u2019s presidential candidates.
