Reflecting the narrow vote margin between the candidates, 44% of voters overall said they were happy with the outcome, while 43% said they were unhappy, according to a Pew Research Center report based on survey data collected by Google among a sample of internet users.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When voters were asked for a single word that described their reaction to Obama\u2019s victory, Obama voters said they were \u201crelieved\u201d and \u201chappy.\u201d A substantial number of Obama voters also mentioned words like \u201cgreat,\u201d \u201celated,\u201d \u201cyes\u201d and \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Romney voters generally said they were \u201cdisappointed\u201d or \u201csad\u201d about the election outcome. Romney voters also used the words \u201cdisgusted,\u201d \u201csick,\u201d \u201chorrified\u201d and \u201cscared,\u201d to describe their reaction to Obama\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/assets.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/11\/11-7-12-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20047412\" title=\"11-7-12 #2\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/11\/11-7-12-2.png\" ><\/a><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, 41% of those surveyed \u2013 including both voters and nonvoters \u2013 said they were happy that Obama was reelected president; 37% were unhappy and 22% neither. A majority of nonvoters (55%) said they were neither happy nor unhappy with the election outcome, while 29% said they were happy and 16% said they were unhappy.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reaction to the election was divided along partisan lines.
