And by far the highest level of <em>dissatisfaction<\/em> is over salary \u2013 51% of teachers say they are not too or not at all satisfied with how much they are paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While views are largely consistent across groups of teachers and types of schools, there are some notable differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"differences-by-school-level\">Differences by school level<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elementary school teachers stand out as being less satisfied than middle and high school teachers with how much freedom they have in implementing curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About four-in-ten elementary school teachers (39%) say they are extremely or very satisfied with this aspect of their job, compared with 50% of middle school teachers and 53% of high school teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elementary school teachers are <em>more<\/em> satisfied than middle and high school teachers when it comes to their relationships with their students\u2019 parents: 55% are highly satisfied, compared with 38% of middle school teachers and 35% of high school teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"differences-by-poverty-level\">Differences by poverty level<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers in low-poverty schools are more satisfied than those in medium- and high-poverty schools when it comes to their relationship with their students\u2019 parents: 51% are highly satisfied, compared with 39% and 40%, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And teachers in high-poverty schools are more likely than those in medium- and low-poverty schools to say they are <em>not<\/em> satisfied with how much freedom they have in implementing curriculum (30% vs. 22% and 17%, respectively, say they are not too or not at all satisfied).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poverty levels are based on the percentage of students in the school who are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 data-is-section=\"true\" data-wp-context=\"{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;do-teachers-feel-trusted-to-do-their-job-well&quot;}\" data-wp-interactive=\"{&quot;namespace&quot;:&quot;prc-block\\\/table-of-contents&quot;}\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"do-teachers-feel-trusted-to-do-their-job-well\">Do teachers feel trusted to do their job well?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-640-wide is-resized\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-46682\" href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/social-trends\/2024\/04\/04\/teachers-job-satisfaction\/st_24-04-04_teacher-survey_01_03-png\/\"><img data-dominant-color=\"dde6e4\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"784\"  sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 480px, (max-width: 782px) 782px, 640px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/03\/ST_24.04.04_teacher-survey_01_03.png?resize=480,607 480w, https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/03\/ST_24.04.04_teacher-survey_01_03.png?resize=620,784 620w\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2024\/03\/ST_24.04.04_teacher-survey_01_03.png?w=620\" alt=\"A horizontal stacked bar chart showing that teachers feel more trusted by their peers, administrators and students than by students\u2019 parents.\" class=\"wp-image-46682 not-transparent\" style=\"--dominant-color: #dde6e4; width:310px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers are <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/social-trends\/2024\/04\/04\/what-public-k-12-teachers-want-americans-to-know-about-teaching\/\">skeptical overall that the public trusts teachers<\/a> to do a good job. Only 18% think most Americans trust public K-12 teachers a great deal or a fair amount to do their job well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also asked teachers how much trust they think their peers, administrators, students and students\u2019 parents have in them. Majorities think each group trusts them a great deal or a fair amount to do their job well. But they feel the least strongly about this when it comes to their students\u2019 parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About six-in-ten teachers (58%) say they think other teachers at their school trust them a great deal to do their job well. About three-in-ten teachers (29%) say it\u2019s at least somewhat likely they\u2019ll look for a new job, with 11% saying it is extremely or very likely they\u2019ll do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About seven-in-ten teachers (71%) say it\u2019s not too or not at all likely they\u2019ll look for a new job this year. (The 2% who say they\u2019re likely to retire or stop working in the next year are not included.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among teachers who say they may look for a new job, 40% say they\u2019re most likely to seek a job <em>outside<\/em> education.
