Overall, they are split evenly between those with a favorable view of the U.S. (45%) and those with an unfavorable view (45%). About as many say that the U.S. response to the political situation in Tunisia had a positive impact as say it was negative. Among the six largely Muslim nations polled, Lebanese and Tunisians give the U.S. its highest marks. Elsewhere views are much dimmer, with less than two-in-ten in Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Jordan having a positive view.<\/p>\n\n<figure><img data-dominant-color=\"efe9d9\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #efe9d9;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22052 not-transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2012\/07\/2012-AS-50.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"253\"><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Younger Tunisians are especially favorable towards the U.S., with 53% of 18-to-29 year-olds expressing a positive opinion.<\/p>\n\n<h3 data-is-section=\"true\" data-wp-context=\"{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;tunisian-u-s-relationship&quot;}\" data-wp-interactive=\"{&quot;namespace&quot;:&quot;prc-block\\\/table-of-contents&quot;}\" id=\"tunisian-u-s-relationship\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tunisian-U.S. Relationship<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about the U.S. response to the political situation in their country, Tunisians have mixed views. Roughly three-in-ten (31%) say the U.S. had a positive impact, while 27% say it was negative, and a quarter volunteers that the U.S. made no difference.<\/p>\n\n<figure><img data-dominant-color=\"f2f1f1\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #f2f1f1;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22053 not-transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.pewresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2012\/07\/2012-AS-51.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"184\" height=\"504\"><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thinking of the future relationship with the U.S., 31% of Tunisians believe they should be closer partners, a quarter thinks they should be less close, and 35% say the relationship is fine as is.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tunisians view their relationship with the U.S. quite differently than their North African neighbor Egypt does. While an identical percentage of people in each country say the relationship with the U.S. is about as close as it needs to be, Egyptians are much more willing to say it should be less close (38% compared with 25% in Tunisia) and only one-in-five say the relationship should be closer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, views of the U.S. response to the political situation are consistent across demographic groups in Tunisia, but thoughts on the future relationship varies. Men, young people, those with high incomes, and Muslims who pray less than five times per day all are more likely to say Tunisia\u2019s relationship to the U.S. should be closer. Roughly three-in-ten (28%) have a lot or some confidence in Obama\u2019s ability to handle international affairs, while a 57%-majority has little or no confidence in his leadership abilities.
