And publics around the world \u2013 and especially in Europe \u2013 are taking note.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inequality in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries increased more over the first three years of the global downturn than in the previous 12 years combined, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oecd.org\/social\/growing-risk-of-inequality-and-poverty-as-crisis-hits-the-poor-hardest-says-oecd.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>recent report<\/b><\/a>\u00a0by the group. And large majorities believe that their particular nation\u2019s economic system favors the wealthy, according to a new 39-country\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2013\/05\/23\/economies-of-emerging-markets-better-rated-during-difficult-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>survey<\/b><\/a>\u00a0by the Pew Research Center, with many in major eurozone countries expressing alarm over these trends.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poll \u2013 which spanned the Americas, Europe, Asia\/Pacific, the Middle East and Africa \u2013 found that clear majorities in 31 of the 39 nations surveyed said the wealth gap in their country has gotten worse over the past five years.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read more at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com\/2013\/05\/28\/world-worried-about-inequality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN\u2019s Global Public Square<\/a><\/em> blog<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Income inequality has been growing at an increasingly rapid pace.
