In his June 19 speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, President Barack Obama said that \u201cthe effort to slow climate change requires bold action.\u201d On Tuesday, in a speech at Georgetown University, <a title=\"Obama wants limits on coal plants, says Keystone can't boost pollution\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/06\/25\/politics\/obama-climate-change\/index.html?hpt=hp_t1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Obama called<\/a> for the United States to \u201clead the world in a coordinated assault on a changing climate.\u201d And the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will issue regulations limiting carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such moves echo widespread public concern about global warming outside the United States, according to a <a title=\"Climate Change and Financial Instability Seen as Top Global Threats\" href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2013\/06\/24\/climate-change-and-financial-instability-seen-as-top-global-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent poll of 39 countries<\/a> by the Pew Research Center. But they do not reflect the priorities of the American people, who are, on a per capita basis, among the world\u2019s largest emitters of greenhouse gases.
