Last week,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/emergingeurope\/2014\/03\/12\/russian-news-editor-fired-after-interviewing-ukrainian-nationalist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galina Timchenko was ousted as editor<\/a>\u00a0of the Russian news site Lenta.ru, after publishing an interview with a right wing Ukrainian nationalist. She was replaced with an editor much more friendly toward Putin and his allies. The websites of opposition leaders Garry Kasparov and Alexei Navalny have also been targeted, along with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/03\/13\/us-russia-internet-idUSBREA2C21L20140313\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">other sites critical<\/a>\u00a0of the Russian president.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the embattled Turkish prime minister, recently pushed new censorship legislation through parliament, making it easier for the government to block web content \u2013 and\u00a0now Twitter is restricted across the country.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Venezuela\u2019s Nicol\u00e1s Maduro has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/world.time.com\/2013\/12\/05\/venezuela-cracks-down-on-internet-as-economy-implodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blocked websites<\/a>\u00a0covering topics that might be a bit uncomfortable for his government, such as skyrocketing inflation and anti-government protests.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Read more
