Italy\u2019s anti-immigrant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italian_general_election,_2018#Results_for_the_Chamber_of_Deputies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">League<\/a> is the country\u2019s third-largest party and became co-leader of the government after this spring\u2019s national election. And in last year\u2019s presidential election, France\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_presidential_election,_2017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Front<\/a>\u00a0(since renamed National Rally) won a third of the vote, nearly double its results in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_presidential_election,_2002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2002<\/a>, the last time a National Front candidate reached the second round of voting.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent surveys by the Pew Research Center document the nativist attributes of this populist upsurge.
