class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a new Pew Research Center survey of 8,512 U.S. adults conducted Jan. 20-26, 2026, <strong>a majority of Americans favor:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintaining a large military presence at the U.S.-Mexico border (62%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requiring people who want to enter the U.S. to let immigration officers review their social media accounts (56%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the survey also finds that <strong>most Americans oppose:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Giving immigration priority to people if they pay a $1 million fee (79% oppose, including 60% who <em>strongly <\/em>oppose)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspending all applications for asylum (66% oppose)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping large numbers of immigrants in detention centers while their cases are decided (64%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pausing immigration visa applications from people partisan gaps on many immigration proposals and actions from the Trump administration.
