Read more about these \u201ccultural Catholics,\u201d former Catholics, and people with other Catholic connections (i.e., those who have&nbsp; a Catholic parent, spouse or partner, or say \u201cyes\u201d when asked if they ever attend Catholic Mass) in <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/religion\/2025\/06\/16\/catholic-connections\/\">Chapter 7<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/religion\/2025\/06\/16\/47-of-us-adults-have-a-personal-or-family-connection-to-catholicism\/\">Overview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey asked Catholics about various aspects of their parish and experiences at their church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About seven-in-ten Catholics (71%) express favorable views of their parish priests, including 32% who express a very favorable opinion of their priests and 39% who express a mostly favorable view. This figure rises to 95% among Catholics who attend Mass at least once a week. Just 3% of weekly Mass-attending Catholics say they have an <em>unfavorable<\/em> view of their parish priests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To put these numbers in some perspective, the survey also found that 80% of weekly Mass-attending Catholics had a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/02\/25\/pope-francis-and-public-opinion-key-findings-from-our-surveys\/\">favorable view of Pope Francis<\/a>, while 18% viewed him unfavorably. Nearly two-thirds of Catholics in the Midwest (64%) and 52% of Catholics in the Northeast say most of their fellow parishioners at Mass are White. By comparison, just 33% of Catholics in the South and 14% of those in the West say, when they go to Mass, most of the people there are White.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"languages-spoken-at-mass\">Languages spoken at Mass<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey also finds that most Hispanic Catholics usually (38%) or sometimes (23%) go to Mass in Spanish. Attending Spanish Masses is more common in the West and South than among Catholics in the Northeast and Midwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reflects regional patterns in the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/03\/04\/10-facts-about-us-catholics\/sr_25-03-04_facts-about-catholics_2\/\">racial and ethnic composition<\/a> of U.S. Catholics.
