X users\u2019 experiences with news"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some ways, X (formerly named Twitter) is more of a news destination than the other three social media sites studied. For example, in the United States, most X users say getting news is <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/06\/12\/how-americans-get-news-on-tiktok-x-facebook-and-instagram\/\">at least a minor reason why they use the site<\/a>, which is not the case for Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, there have been changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/05\/17\/how-us-adults-on-twitter-use-the-site-in-the-elon-musk-era\/\">how people use the site<\/a> since it was purchased by Elon Musk in 2022 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/7\/23\/23804629\/twitters-rebrand-to-x-may-actually-be-happening-soon\">later rebranded<\/a>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/social-media-and-news-fact-sheet\/\">2023 survey<\/a> found that X news consumers have become more evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans after they leaned heavily Democratic in <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2021\/09\/20\/news-consumption-across-social-media-in-2021\/\">previous years<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our survey looks at U.S. X users\u2019 experiences with getting news. This includes 21% who say X impacts which news stories they see there <em>a lot<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"views-by-party-0\"><em>Views by party<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, Democratic news consumers on X express more skeptical views toward the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eight-in-ten Democrats who regularly get news on X say that the platform exerts at least some influence in what news stories they see there, compared with 55% of Republican X news consumers who say the same.
