According to Stewart Bainum Jr., the former hotel and health care executive who launched the Banner, Cohn will be charged with creating a sustainable business model for the outlet, which now has about 75 journalists in its newsroom and plans to expand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nonprofit digital news outlets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niemanlab.org\/2023\/05\/there-are-more-nonprofit-digital-newsrooms-but-the-pace-of-growth-has-slowed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appear to be on the rise<\/a> nationally. This was evident in our <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2022\/04\/29\/nonprofit-news-outlets-are-playing-a-growing-role-in-statehouse-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 analysis of statehouse reporters in the United States<\/a>, which found that the number of nonprofit news reporters who cover state capitols has nearly quadrupled since 2014. Among regular news consumers on Parler, 66% said news on Parler <strong>helped them better understand current events<\/strong>, and 69% said they <strong>expected the news there to be mostly accurate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"chart-of-the-week\">\ud83d\udcca&nbsp;<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today&#8217;s chart comes from a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2022\/04\/29\/nonprofit-news-outlets-are-playing-a-growing-role-in-statehouse-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 analysis of statehouse reporters at nonprofit news outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This analysis identified 80 nonprofit news outlets that covered U.S. statehouses in 2022. Of these, <strong>nearly half (39) were founded within the last five years<\/strong>.
