Over the last two decades, the site has transformed the way people connect online, and its reach has grown to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/264810\/number-of-monthly-active-facebook-users-worldwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3 billion monthly users worldwide<\/a>. In recent years, lawmakers and the public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/24\/technology\/states-lawsuit-children-instagram-facebook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the United States<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/meta-facebook-data-privacy-fine-europe-9aa912200226c3d53aa293dca8968f84\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abroad<\/a> have grown more critical of Facebook and its parent company, Meta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Three-in-ten Americans say they regularly get news from Facebook,<\/strong>\u00a0according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/social-media-and-news-fact-sheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fall 2023 survey<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 higher than the shares who turn to other social media platforms for news. Still, among Facebook users, the share who say they regularly get news there has fallen from 54% in 2020 to 43% last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/02\/02\/5-facts-about-how-americans-use-facebook-two-decades-after-its-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our new analysis <\/a>has five facts about how Americans use Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"new-from-pew-research\">\ud83d\udea8 <strong>New from Pew Research Center<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recently asked Americans who get news on social media to describe \u2013 in their own words \u2013 the things they like and dislike most about getting news there. Here are key findings from <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/02\/07\/many-americans-find-value-in-getting-news-on-social-media-but-concerns-about-inaccuracy-have-risen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our new analysis<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People say <strong>convenience<\/strong> is the top reason they <em>like<\/em> to get news on social media. One-in-five social media news consumers say this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inaccuracy <\/strong>is the top element that people <em>dislike <\/em>about getting news on social media; 40% cite reasons within this &#8220;inaccuracy&#8221; category, up from 31% in 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The analysis also looks at whether people prefer getting different types of
