Experts are concerned that this unprecedented raid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcur.org\/news\/2023-08-14\/a-newspaper-raid-in-kansas-did-not-stop-the-presses-but-did-start-scrutiny-of-local-police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">may be a violation<\/a> of the freedom of press guaranteed by the First Amendment. Progressive local news group Courier Newsroom is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/08\/15\/courier-newsroom-expansion-ahead-2024-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launching newsrooms<\/a> in Nevada, Texas and New Hampshire. Courier is a part of a public benefit corporation that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2021\/10\/26\/soros-hoffman-disinformation-tara-mcgowan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seeks to address disinformation<\/a> through investment in local news outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2019\/03\/26\/most-americans-especially-republicans-say-local-journalists-shouldnt-express-views-on-local-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2018 Pew Research Center survey<\/a>, 61% of Americans believe local journalists should not express their views on local issues, compared with 36% who say they should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"chart-of-the-week\">\ud83d\udcca&nbsp;<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debates about press freedom took center stage this week.
