In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2022\/10\/06\/the-role-of-alternative-social-media-in-the-news-and-information-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Center survey<\/a>, 6% of Americans said they regularly get news from any of seven alt-social sites, which generally have conservative-leaning audiences. The study also looked at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2022\/10\/06\/prominent-accounts-on-alternative-social-media-sites-mostly-are-individuals-not-organizations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prominent accounts on these sites<\/a>, finding that the\u00a0<strong>vast majority are individuals with no declared affiliation to any organization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"new-from-pew-research\">\ud83d\udea8 <strong>New from Pew Research Center<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new Pew Research Center analysis looks at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/10\/31\/how-black-americans-engage-with-local-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">how Black Americans engage with local news<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key findings include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>36% of Black Americans say they see or hear news coverage about their local community extremely or fairly often,<\/strong> while an additional 39% say they encounter local news sometimes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>58% say say local journalists in their area are mostly in touch with their nearby community,<\/strong> while<strong> <\/strong>38% say local journalists are mostly out of touch.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Black adults ages 65 and older (46%) are twice as likely as those under 30 (23%) to see news coverage about their local community extremely or fairly often.<\/strong> Older Black adults also are more likely to say local journalists are in touch and local coverage is mostly fair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/10\/30\/president-biden-issues-executive-order-to-set-standards-for-ai-safety-and-security\/?guccounter=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued an executive order<\/a> aimed at setting new standards for safety and security surrounding artificial intelligence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/08\/28\/growing-public-concern-about-the-role-of-artificial-intelligence-in-daily-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Center survey<\/a>, 52% of Americans said they feel <strong>more concerned than excited about the increased use of AI<\/strong>. Just 10% said they are more excited than concerned, while 36% said they feel an equal mix of these emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Americans are divided about whether they think AI helps more (33%) or hurts more (27%) when it comes to <strong>people finding accurate information online<\/strong>, with 40% saying they are not sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"chart-of-the-week\">\ud83d\udcca&nbsp;<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, we released <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/10\/31\/how-black-americans-engage-with-local-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an analysis of how Black Americans engage with local news<\/a>.
