A Pentagon spokesperson said the government \u201clook[s] forward to addressing these arguments in court.\u201d The Times and many other news outlets <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pentagon-press-access-hegseth-trump-restrictions-5d9c2a63e4e03b91fc1546bb09ffbf12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">turned in their press passes<\/a> in October rather than agree to the new policy. And this week, the Pentagon press secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/12\/02\/pentagon-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticized \u201clegacy media\u201d<\/a> in a news conference.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-44d20579e0015221 wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/04\/24\/americans-remain-concerned-about-press-freedoms-but-partisan-views-have-flipped-since-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research Center survey<\/a> conducted from February to March, 77% of Americans said the freedom of the press is extremely or very important to the well-being of society.
