While a spokesman said the president is holding \u201cthe fake news media accountable,\u201d critics of the settlement have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/07\/02\/paramount-settlement-press-freedom-00437677\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attacked Paramount<\/a> for not pushing back against what they call a frivolous lawsuit.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-df661c5a2e7bf54a wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>As is the case for other TV networks, there is a wide partisan gap in the share of Americans who say they use and trust CBS News, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/feature\/news-media-tracker\/cbs_news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Pew Research Center study<\/a> that looked at 30 major news sources. While more than half of Democrats (56%) trust CBS News as a source of news, 23% of Republicans say the same.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-32dec49ce3d84864 wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>The lawsuit saga has not only raised concerns about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/show\/what-paramounts-multi-million-dollar-settlement-with-trump-means-for-press-freedom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">state of press freedom<\/a> in the U.S., but some have questioned the business motivations behind the deal. Paramount is currently awaiting approval from the Federal Communications Commission for a <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/warren-investigation-paramount-trump-settlement-bribery-1236446129\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">merger with Skydance Media<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-bbf0653e9c23b553 wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>Large majorities of Americans believe U.S. news organizations are at least somewhat influenced by corporations and financial interests (85%) and by the government and political interests (86%), according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/04\/24\/americans-remain-concerned-about-press-freedoms-but-partisan-views-have-flipped-since-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pew Research Center survey<\/a> from earlier this year. These shares include over half of Americans who say news organizations are influenced <em>a great deal <\/em>by corporate (55%) and political (57%)
