Press freedom groups have questioned whether police are targeting members of the media. Many Americans have dim views of the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2025\/03\/31\/most-americans-say-they-are-tuned-in-to-news-about-the-trump-administration\/#views-on-the-trump-administration-s-relationship-with-the-news-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">relationship between President Donald Trump and the media<\/a> and express <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/04\/24\/americans-remain-concerned-about-press-freedoms-but-partisan-views-have-flipped-since-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concerns about press freedom<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"ng-block\" style=\"padding-bottom:0px\">The protests are getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/10\/technology\/la-protests-influencers-media.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lots of coverage on social media<\/a>, including from content creators and news influencers with a range of perspectives. About one-in-five Americans say they <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2024\/11\/18\/americas-news-influencers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regularly get news from news influencers on social media<\/a>, and many of these influencers have an explicit political affiliation.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n<li class=\"ng-block\" style=\"padding-bottom:0px\">False images and conspiracy theories related to the protests <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/10\/technology\/la-protests-conspiracy-theories-disinformation.html?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are also spreading<\/a>, aiming to fuel anti-immigrant attitudes and anger against political leaders. About half of Americans (51%) say made-up news is a very big problem in the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2025\/04\/24\/widespread-global-public-concern-about-made-up-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a March survey<\/a>.
