Kennedy Jr., the recently confirmed secretary of Health and Human Services, has offered\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/rfk-jr-measles-vaccine-deadly-texas-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some public comments<\/a>\u00a0in support of the vaccine used to prevent the disease, but he has long expressed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/measles-texas-rfk-jr-response-vaccines-doctors-wary-rcna194510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">skepticism about the effects of vaccines<\/a>\u00a0and has also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/03\/04\/health\/texas-measles-outbreak-kennedy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested alternative methods to treating measles<\/a>. People have also encountered false or misleading\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/the-monitor\/race-based-vaccine-myths-spread-amid-measles-outbreaks-the-monitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">race-based narratives<\/a>\u00a0surrounding the outbreak.\u00a0<br><br>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2025\/02\/12\/5-years-later-america-looks-back-at-the-impact-of-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent Pew Research Center report<\/a>\u00a0that looked back on the COVID-19 pandemic after five years found that overall, 60% of U.S. adults are at least somewhat <strong>confident that they would be able to find accurate information in the event of a new health emergency.<\/strong> While about three-quarters of Democrats (74%) say they are confident they could do this, just under half of Republicans (46%) agree.\u00a0<br><br>Republicans also are less likely than Democrats to <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/10\/16\/republicans-young-adults-now-nearly-as-likely-to-trust-info-from-social-media-as-from-national-news-outlets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trust information from national news organizations<\/a>, and at the time the survey was conducted in October 2024, they were much more likely to say that that Americans are turning to for local news have become increasingly digital, according to a <a Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. For instance, 39% of adults ages 18 to 29 say local journalists should advocate for change in the community, compared with 20% of those 65 and older.
