Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/france\/article\/2023\/06\/29\/france-requires-parental-consent-for-under-15s-on-social-media_6039514_7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">France passed legislation<\/a> requiring social media sites to verify users\u2019 ages and get parental consent for users younger than 15. Some U.S. states <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnj.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2024\/07\/26\/floridas-social-media-law-new-rules\/74547227007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">also have sought<\/a> to limit children\u2019s use of social media.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-59043a6eb3aa245d wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>In the U.S., while the <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/2023\/12\/11\/teens-social-media-and-technology-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vast majority of teens use social media<\/a>, <strong>just 9% see their experiences with social media as mostly negative,<\/strong> according to <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/2022\/11\/16\/2-teens-views-about-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a 2022 survey of U.S. teens<\/a> ages 13 to 17. About a third (32%) say social media has had a mostly positive effect on them personally, while more than half (59%) say it has been neither negative nor positive.
