The test will affect just 1% of users in several European countries, aiming to assess the impact on user traffic and the overall search experience. Google was previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2024\/mar\/20\/google-fined-250m-euros-in-france-for-breaching-intellectual-property-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fined in France<\/a> for breaching rules about reproducing media companies\u2019 content online.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-647d4034261a86dd wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>In the U.S., <strong>about two-thirds of adults say they often (23%) or sometimes (43%) get news from Google or other search engines,<\/strong> including 12% who say they prefer to get news this way over any other platform, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/news-platform-fact-sheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. switch cite false information and hate speech on X as reasons, as well as X owner <strong>Elon Musk\u2019s<\/strong> close proximity to President-elect <strong>Donald Trump.<\/strong> <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-03b73241b8e1bb0b wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:Georgia;line-height:1.6;font-weight:normal;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:10px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;text-align:none;color:#2a2a2a\"><p>In 2023, five months after Musk\u2019s takeover of Twitter, 60% of the site\u2019s U.S. users said they had<strong>\u00a0taken a break from the platform<\/strong>\u00a0in the past year, <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/05\/17\/majority-of-us-twitter-users-say-theyve-taken-a-break-from-the-platform-in-the-past-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" year, <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/internet\/2024\/06\/12\/how-x-users-view-experience-the-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another Center survey<\/a> found bipartisan agreement among X users that people feel free to<strong>\u00a0openly express their political views<\/strong>\u00a0on the platform, with 89% of Republicans and 86% of Democrats voicing this view. But Democrats who use X were much more likely than Republicans on the site to say people getting harassed on X is a major problem (48% vs. 15%).
