rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/26\/us\/los-angeles-times-endorsement-soon-shiong.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/29\/media\/usa-today-gannett-newspapers-endorsement-president\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USA Today<\/a>, have announced that they <strong>will not endorse a candidate in the presidential race.<\/strong> These decisions have resulted in backlash from some readers: For example, about 10% of the Post\u2019s subscribers \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/style\/media\/2024\/10\/29\/washington-post-cancellations-number\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">totaling at least 250,000<\/a> \u2013 canceled their subscriptions.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div width=\"100%\" class=\"ng-block-6f1fa6ccea625579 wp-block-newsletterglue-text ng-block\" style=\"color:#2a2a2a\"><div><div><div class=\"ng-block-td\" align=\"none\" believe that U.S. news organizations are at least somewhat influenced by corporations and financial interests (84%) or by the government and political interests (83%), according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/04\/23\/most-americans-say-a-free-press-is-highly-important-to-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 Pew Research Center survey<\/a>. In 2020, there was <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/joe-biden-donald-trump-arizona-elections-a11f8112a58eb45854be59f64d47e1dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">controversy over when states were called<\/a> on election night, and news outlets did not project the final Electoral College result until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/07\/928803493\/biden-wins-presidency-according-to-ap-edging-trump-in-turbulent-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several days later<\/a>. While a large majority of Kamala Harris supporters (85%) are very or somewhat confident this will be the case, a smaller majority of Trump supporters (58%) express this view, including just 19% who are very confident.
