The <strong>Women\u2019s Sports Audio Network<\/strong> (WSAN) will be free to use and will include podcasts, sports reports, and stories about athletes. This comes at a time of increasing media coverage of women\u2019s sports as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/audio-and-podcasting\/#:~:text=According%20to%20survey%20data%20from%20Edison%20Research%2C%20the%20share%20of%20the%20public%20listening%20to%20online%20audio%20has%20slightly%20increased%20in%20recent%20years.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growing audiences for audio media<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/2023\/04\/18\/podcasts-as-a-source-of-news-and-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Pew Research Center survey<\/a>, about half of Americans said they had listened to a podcast in the past year \u2013 and that number rises to two-thirds among those ages 18 to 29. About <strong>one in five U.S. podcast listeners (22%) regularly listen to sports podcasts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"new-from-pew-research\">\ud83d\udea8 <strong>New from Pew Research Center<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/04\/23\/most-americans-say-a-free-press-is-highly-important-to-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new Pew Research Center survey<\/a> explores how Americans view the freedom of the press and how much influence political and financial interests have on U.S. news organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key findings include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults (73%) say the freedom of the press is extremely or very important to the well-being of society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most U.S. adults (79%) believe the media are <em>at least somewhat <\/em>free to report the news in the country. Half of Americans said they would support a ban in March 2023, and this share declined to 38% later that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"chart-of-the-week\">\ud83d\udcca&nbsp;<strong>Chart of the week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2023\/07\/10\/majority-of-americans-say-tiktok-is-a-threat-to-national-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023 Center survey<\/a>, about six-in-ten Americans (59%) said they <strong>see TikTok as a major or minor threat to national security<\/strong> in the United States. These views vary by age: <strong>Just 13% of adults ages 18 to 29 say TikTok is a major threat<\/strong>.
