Digital sources have become an important part of Americans\u2019 news diets<\/a> \u2013 and social media plays a crucial role, particularly for younger adults. As of 2026, more than half of U.S. adults (59%) say they get news from social media at least sometimes, up slightly compared with the last few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why we did this<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As social media continues to play an important role in how Americans get news, we conducted this research to better understand which platforms people turn to for news and how these habits have changed over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How we did this<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

For this analysis, we surveyed 5,166 U.S. adults from Aug. 24 to 30, 2026. Everyone who took part in these surveys is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel<\/a>. The surveys represent the views of the full U.S. adult population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
