By a 50%-to-44% margin, Americans favor removing U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan as soon as possible rather than keeping troops in that country until the situation has stabilized. In June 2010, the public favored keeping troops in Afghanistan until the situation is stabilized by a 53%-to-40% margin. The increase in support for bringing the troops home as soon as possible comes despite the fact that 50% say the U.S. military effort in Afghanistan is going very or fairly well — little changed from the 48% of the public who said the same in June 2010.
