In a study of media coverage from June 2009 to June 2010, Apple proved to be the most-covered tech company. Of all press stories about technology, 15% focused primarily on Apple. The runner-up in media coverage, with 11%, was Google. Apple also received more news coverage than other prominent tech companies such as Twitter (7%), Facebook (4.8%) and Microsoft (3%). Drawn-out coverage of new products certainly assisted Apple in capturing media attention. In fact, the second biggest story in all tech media for the time period studied was Apple’s launch of its latest iPhone. Press coverage of the iPad was not far behind on the list of top tech stories. Overall, media coverage of technology companies was generally positive.
