[The Networked Librarian – Lee Rainie at BayNet](http://vimeo.com/24143590) from [BayNet Webmaster](http://vimeo.com/user7184978) on [Vimeo](http://vimeo.com).

Director Lee Rainie discusses [technology and libraries](https://alpha.pewresearch.org/pewresearch-org/internet/Topics/Activities-and-Pursuits/Libraries.aspx) at San Francisco Public Library. He describes the latest research findings of the Pew Internet & American Life Project about how Americans use the internet and cell phones. He explores how libraries can be actors in building and participating in social networks through their use of [social media](https://alpha.pewresearch.org/pewresearch-org/internet/Topics/Technology-and-Media/Web-20.aspx) such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogging and through delivering their time-tested — and trusted — services to their patrons. You can watch a video of his remarks above, and view the slides from his talk below (or download them as a [PDF](~/media/Files/Presentations/2011/May/2011-5-6-11-San-Francisco-pdf-libraries-as-social-networks.pdf) or [Powerpoint file](~/media/Files/Presentations/2011/May/2011-5-6-11-San-Francisco-libraries-as-social-networks.ppt)). A transcript of his remarks is available [on the BayNet website](http://www.baynetlibs.org/2011/05/06/event-free-lee-raine-pew-research-center-internet-american-life-project-may-6/).
